Here We Go!

Today at noon, the combines drove off the yard to the first custom harvest job. The guys have been putting in long days to get the combines ready to go and the first day of harvest is here.
Dillon was happy to join his Dad in the combine today.

Devin's younger brother Darren drives a combine as well and the combines usually work together on the same field.

Devin's Dad drives the tractor with the grain buggy. The combines unload on the go when the hopper is full, making the tractor driver need to keep the right speed and distance to the combine. This would not be a job for me! ;)

Devin's older brother Dean drives semi and fills in where necessary, as well as coordinating custom harvest jobs.

Us "farm wives" rotate supper duties, bringing a hot meal to where ever the guys are working. Takes some coordination with kids but it's manageable. Gives us a chance to see how things are going with the guys and the boys get a chance to see their Dad.

The kids enjoy going for combine and tractor rides. When school begins it's met with a groan as it means they'll have to go to school, instead of spending the day on the field. As Dillon begins school this year, I'm sure I'll hear a similar tune.

It's a busy season. Long hours are put in to try to get the many acres of crops in. Our family farm...which are few and far between these days.
